West Michigan Spring Fishing Report

April fishing was rewarding with patience and the right locations.

We are wrapping up another awesome spring of fishing here in West Michigan. In April, we had killer days streamer fishing for trout and had a blast doing it. With some variable weather, like snow flurries at the end of April, we still had decent smallmouth fishing on most of our rivers. As the end of May looms, and the promise of warmer weather in June, we have seen more and more fish charge streamers. The fishing is really heating up and this transition period between spring and the dog days of summer is some of the best to be on the water for.

This spring I offered trout trips and we had an absolute blast!

Our daytime air temps are now consistently reaching 80’s but with our cool nights, our waters are still holding in the low 70’s giving us favorable fishing conditions. On my raft, we are having a ton of fun on small to moderately sized streamers while matching the color to the conditions of the water.

Dark days called for darker flies and gold flash.

On bright days we are having success with white, tan, and even yellow which is just a blast to watch get smoked on the retrieve. In murkier water, blacks and browns, accented with gold flash have been the ticket. Olive is another solid choice all year round on my raft.

The tail end of spring has the fishing really heating up!

With the warmer weather, frogging has started to show it's face, however, the real topwater game is just around the corner. As the water continues to heat up, and the dragonflies and other terrestrials really start coming back to life, we will see topwater become more and more a focus on my raft.

Streamer fishing is still our bread and butter but the bass are starting to look up.

Again, the spring transition is an outstanding time to catch fish so don’t miss out. Head to the rates page and lets get you on the books

Cheers,

Allen
