Now, to the report:

Kalamazoo River – Middle Section (Parchment – Marshall)

April was rainy and flows were high. The month of May has been the complete opposite though. With a lack of rain, water levels have dropped, clarity has improved and fishing has been hit of miss.

With water temps in the mid 60’s, streamers are still king.  Streamers that can move water in the 3-5 inch length seem to work best. Popular colors have been variations of white, black, & yellow.

Smallies are just about done spawning for the year and can be found guarding their beds. Please let them do their thing and avoid targeting these fish at this time of year.

Topwater is also coming into play now. With temps forecasted next week to reach 90, the water temps should really kick up. Dahlberg diver’s always do well, as do smaller presentations like Boogle Bugs.

Note: Whether your tossing streamers or topwater, be prepared to pay the tax man!Northern pike seem to be heavy all throughout the middle section and will eat just about any well placed presentation.
